Horizon Europe is the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for the period 2021-2027.
With a budget of about 100 billion Euros, this is the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever.

A new approach
Following the success of the experience of Horizon 2020, the new Framework Programme will continue to support and promote the scientific excellence in Europe, with a new approach based on missions, so as to achieve increasingly better results from a social, political and economic point of view.
The Programme aims at:
- Strengthening and spreading excellence, excellent frontier and basic research, facilitating a more inclusive and wider participation from citizens, in order to improve the connection among research, innovation and, in case, education and other policies.
- Supporting the implementation of the intervention priorities of the European Union and face the global challenges affecting life quality, implementing policies in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) and the Paris Agreement on climate, supporting the European social and economic model and values, promoting responsible research and innovation, and improving the gender dimension.
- Increasing the connections of collaboration in European R&I, in various sectors and disciplines, with a wider international cooperation, and trying to attract talented researchers through mobility.
- Developing more competitive research infrastructures in the European area of research, providing a transnational access, to promote open science and guarantee open access to scientific publications and research data.
- Implementing a more active and inclusive dissemination, in order to encourage a systematic use of the results of R&I, especially for the leverage effect on private investments and the development of policies.
- Setting and achieving ambitious goals, through the use of missions, in order to stimulate the R&I activity in SMEs and increase the number of innovative companies.
- Encouraging industrial competitiveness, innovative capacity and employment in Europe, improving the access to risk capital.
